Timeshare, also known as Vacation Ownership, offers the opportunity to own condominium-style accommodations at quality resorts, which typically offer an array of amenities in popular domestic and international destinations. Timeshare accommodations typically offer spacious floor plans and home-like amenities when compared with traditional hospitality products like hotels, and may include kitchens, laundry facilities, living room space, and multiple bedrooms – all in the privacy of your own unit. Timeshare Vacation owners also enjoy the peace-of-mind timeshare provides when travelling each year. They don’t have to deal with the stress of planning a vacation and booking accommodations. They know they have a place to return to each year. In Great Britain in the early 1960’s, vacation home sharing, also known as holiday home sharing, evolved when four families would purchase a vacation cottage jointly, each having exclusive use of the property for one of the four seasons. They rotated seasons each year, so each family enjoyed the prime seasons equally.

In the mid-1970’s, fee simple ownership also spawned the concept of vacation exchanges. Vacation exchange was pioneered by RCI and shortly thereafter by Interval International. Today these two companies represent over 35K Resorts/Hotels resorts worldwide.

By 1990’s, major hotel companies including Marriott, Sheraton, Hyatt, Hilton and others began to offer vacation ownership properties. Consumer acceptance and timeshare sales reached record highs.

Today the timeshare is a multi-billion dollar industry. There are nearly 5,000,000 timeshare owners world-wide, and 85.6% of those who responded to the most recent surveys indicated that they are satisfied with their vacation ownership. In fact, 32.4% have plans to purchase additional time and 18.6% will either upgrade or modify their existing timeshare plans. The vacation ownership industry boasts a worldwide offering of about 35k resorts/Hotels in over 110 countries.

Like most great companies, it all started with an idea. In 1974, Jon and Christel DeHaan set out to add greater value to the timeshare experience when they pioneered the vacation exchange concept. The DeHaans developed a system that allowed owners to exchange time at their home resort for a stay at a different affiliated property—delivering a new level of flexibility and choice to timeshare owners and revolutionizing an industry in the process.

Today, RCI remains the leader in vacation exchange, offering the world’s largest vacation exchange network and providing unrivaled products and services to enhance the vacation ownership experience. It’s one of the many reasons why more resorts trust RCI to deliver vacation exchange services to its subscribing timeshare members than any other company across the globe.

At RCI, we understand that no matter how busy life gets, you cherish the time you set aside each year to get away and create memories that will last a lifetime. We are so dedicated to delivering vacation memories that last a lifetime - Because your vacation means the world to us.

RCI is headquartered in Orlando, United States and is part of Wyndham Destination Network (NYSE: WYN). RCI India started operations in Bangalore, in 1992 and has been serving its members for last 28 years in India and 46 years globally.
